Frequently asked
How do I open a Markdown file?
Double-click any
.md file in Finder, drag one onto the Hashpane window, or use File > Open. It renders instantly in a calm reading pane. How do I make Hashpane my default Markdown reader?
In Finder, right-click a
.md file, choose Get Info, set “Open with” to Hashpane, then click “Change All…”.Can I copy formatted text and the Markdown source?
Yes. Select text and press ⌘C to copy rich, formatted text for Mail or Docs; choose Edit > Copy as Markdown (⇧⌘C) to copy the original Markdown source for your selection.
What Markdown does Hashpane support?
GitHub Flavored Markdown: headings, lists, task lists, tables, footnotes, fenced code with syntax highlighting, and math (KaTeX) — rendered to match what GitHub shows.
Is Hashpane private?
There is no account, no analytics, and no telemetry, and it runs sandboxed, reading only the files you open. See the Privacy Policy.
Does it work offline?
Yes. Hashpane reads and renders your files on-device, so it works the same on a plane as at your desk. The one exception is a document that references an image hosted on the web, which needs a connection to load that image.
